Currently most available weight loss drugs approved by the FDA ( U.S. Food and Drug Administration ) are for short-term use, meaning a few weeks or months not for long time. FDA is responsible for taking action against any unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. Generally, manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA nor get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements. Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading.
How
can I lose my weight? A pill may seem like an easy answer, but weight loss
drugs have had a sketchy track record over the past two decades. Ever since Fen Phen and Meridia were taken off the market after dangerous
heart-related side effects were widely reported.
One
type of weight lose medication is Appetite Suppressants. These drugs generally
come in the form of tablets or extended-release capsules. Appetite suppressants
can be obtained by a doctor's prescription or purchased over the counter.
Another type of prescription weight loss drug is a fat absorption inhibitor. It
works by blocking about (30 - 40)% of dietary fat from being absorbed. That's
why it can help you to lose 12 -14 pounds weight over a 12 months period. The
most effective diet pills are only meant to be taken for a short period of
time, usually six months or less. After six months, your body develops a
tolerance to these drugs' effects, and weight loss plateaus. After that, if you
don't also follow a healthy eating and exercise plan, the weight will come
right back.
No
new weight loss medications have been approved by the FDA for 13 years, until
this summer when the agency gave the green light to two new drugs. Qsymia
and Belviq as the medications are branded, aim to put a dent in obesity
epidemic. Both are targeted specifically at obese adults – those with a body
mass index over 30. Qsymia is a combination of Phentermine and Topirimax,
a drug for easing seizures and migraines that also tends to make people feel
full. The other Belviq works on brain receptors for serotonin, a
neurotransmitter than triggers feelings of satisfaction.
Most
of the appetite suppressants diet pills increases the risk of high blood
pressure, heart disease, heart attack and cardiac arrest. On the other side fat
absorption diet pills may cause uncomfortable cramping, gas and diarrhea.
However, there are currently no studies to determine the effects of these
medications over the long term. Newer drugs are being studied as potential
treatments for obesity, some of which are showing promise and may be available
in the near future.
At
last I want to say that, If you want to lose your weight quickly select the
diet pill which will match you very well and obviously try to check out the
ingredient and consult with a professional doctor before continue. Please don't hurry, just control your food habit and do some exercise
daily, it will be more stable and secure than taking diet pill. Now the decision is your, pill or dieting with
exercise?
